Tucked away on the cobbled streets of the old town behind the mega brassy row of arcades and boozers, you’ll find the wonderfully eccentric Mad Hatter’s Tea Rooms.
The two floors are stuffed full of Victorian knick knacks all draped in year round Christmas decorations. There’s even a Christmas tree. I wonder who gets the job of dusting it all, I feel exhausted just thinking about it.
A special homage to Lady Diana takes centre stage on the ground floor as you enter. I nearly curtseyed at the counter.
Our teatime treats did not disappoint! A huge pot of tea, gigantic slab of lemon cake and a delicious scone all served up by the Mad Hatter himself who looked dapper in top hat, bow tie and bright yellow suit.
If you ever find yourself in Margate I most certainly recommend a trip to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Room. Just don’t make my mistake and refer to English Breakfast tea as ‘normal’, this does not please the Mad Hatter.
Great post Leona. That is a fine looking tearoom. I love the Diana shrine – brilliant!
